At Philo Coffee, we are deeply committed to coffee, not as a commodity, but as a vehicle for resistance, relationship, and radical change.
In a system where profit often comes at the expense of people and land, we intentionally source from smallholder farmers whose work holds both social and economic power in their communities.
We challenge the exploitative structures of the global coffee trade by rejecting anonymous, price-driven transactions. Instead, we build relationships rooted in transparency, mutual care, and shared futures.
Every decision we make—how we buy, roast, and share coffee—is an act of investigation and defiance. We question what’s considered “normal” in coffee and actively seek alternatives that nourish people, not just margins.

Philo Coffee is excited to join The Fermentation Project by James Hoffmann and Lucia Solis, a global initiative celebrating innovation in coffee processing.
We’ll be hosting a special cupping event featuring Lucia’s coffees — the same coffee processed four different ways. It’s a rare chance to explore how fermentation transforms flavour and to connect with a worldwide community focused on processing awareness and education.
